Welcome
The foundation was established to honor the memory and charitable deeds of Jonathan Krist. He was a talented musician, conscientious about his politics and helping the underserved. He died in a car accident in May 2006 at the age of 19.
What We Do
Box of New Hope
Notecards with photos of New Hope are offered for sale as a "Box of New Hope". FBLA, the business club at our local high school, sells the notecards and the proceeds are used to send supplies and a bit of "new hope" to people in need. This partnership teaches students that philanthrophy is a responsible part of any business plan.
The Jonny Scholars
Jonathan was a student activist and a freshman at Oberlin College. The foundation awards two college scholarships a year to students who exhibit creativity and originality in both thought and action. Recipients exhibit the spirit of Jonathan, a bit of a contrarian, a bit of a dreamer, but always inspired by the possibilities.
Music with a Mission
Many people described Jonathan as a bridge, bringing together students, different generations and opposing ideas. Whether it was raising money to build wells in South Africa or just getting a jam session together with musicians of all ages and backgrounds, Jon was all about reaching out to create links between different communities. In this spirit, the foundation created a program called Music with a Mission.
